Next week local arts and heritage advocates have the opportunity to meet with legislators in Olympia and express support of arts and heritage in our own communities and at the larger state level.

BLT and the Highline Historical Society present one-woman play about the life of Golda Meir

Sunday, January 22nd at 2:00pm, Burien Little Theatre will present "Golda Meir: From Pogrom to Prime Minister," the one-woman show about the life of the former Israeli Prime Minister. The one-hour piece, which spans this famous woman's experiences - from her childhood in Kiev through a life of state in Israel - was envisioned and written by Joan Wolfberg, who performs as Ms. Meir in BLT's production, which is co-presented by The Highline Historical Society.

Arts and Academics Academy presents: “Rising Stars”

On Wednesday, January 18th, 2012, from 6:30pm until 8:30pm, Arts and Academics Academy will present “Rising Stars” at Highline Performing Arts Center. The "Arts Night Extravaganza" includes music, dance, and visual arts. From the Academy:

2012 Artist Trust Fellowship

Artist Trust is now accepting applications for its 2012 fellowship. Washington State artists working in the disciplines of craft, media, music and literary arts are eligible to apply. The deadline for applications is February 26th, 2012.

ChoralSounds Northwest welcomes new and returning singers as we prepare for our upcoming Cabaret and Spring concerts, under the baton of Brian J. Winnie. Rehearsals begin on January 3 and are every Tuesday evening from 7pm until 9:15pm at Glendale Lutheran Church (SW 136th St & 2nd Ave SW) in the main sanctuary at the north end of the church property. Empty Bowls, 2012

The artists at Moshier Community Art Center have been busy making lots and lots of bowls in preparation for the annual Empty Bowls event, which will be on Friday, January 27th in the Burien Community Center, with lunch from 11:00am to 2:00pm and dinner from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. The annual event is a fundraiser for local area food banks and after paying at least the minimum donation each attendee is able to choose a bowl, which is then filled with his/her choice among several soups.
